The Art of Sport and the Sport of Theatre

Located 500 kilometers northwest of Edmonton, deep in the Peace Region stands our small, rural, public school.  Beaverlodge Elementary School serves approximately 375 students ranging from Early Intervention (3 and 4 year-olds) to grade six.

Trickster Theatre will be coming into our school this year to work with students to create our original show “The Art of Sport and the Sport of Theatre”. We are very excited for this opportunity and it will be great experience for every single one of our students.

We greatly appreciate your help and look forward to sharing our finished work with you!

  • Full Project Summary

Beaverlodge Elementary is celebrating Canada’s diverse history through exploring the marriage of Canadian sports icons and contemporary artistic expression. We are inspired by national sports heroes like Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Elvis Stojko, Kurt Browning and Clara Hughes and we have our own local sports icons as well: Chris Schmidt, Matt and Darby Walker went on to play professional hockey.

  • Project Outcome

Beaverlodge Elementary School students will engage in activities that promote creativity and artistic appreciation through theatre and video. Our students will celebrate our local and national history and relationship with sports icons. Our students will have a greater exposure and understanding of the arts. Our teachers will be able to teach drama and curriculum through movement more effectively. We will share our video essays with students and schools across Canada. The community will be invited to see the abilities our students have to celebrate life and learning! We will build and promote integration and connection to our community and our school for the 2017 – 2018 school year!

  • How to create projects

Only a school site admin can set up new projects. Ask you teacher to get help in setting up a project page. Once set up you can write blog articles to support your project.

New Projects can be of many types: an event, a take action project, a study, or a Trickster Residency.

  • What is Trickster Theatre

Trickster Theatre hosts weeklong residencies in Alberta schools. We help create an original show with up to 500 actors - on any theme. We provide the lights, curtains, sounds, costumes, and more!
