Strength in Diversity

0%100%

At Bishop Kidd, we embrace diversity.  It’s who we are.  Our students come from 23 different countries and they are proud to be Canadian.

Our students, teachers, and staff are very excited to work with Trickster Theatre in the 2017-18 school year to put on our show on Strength in Diversity.

We greatly appreciate your help and look forward to sharing our finished work with you!

  • Full Project Summary

Who doesn’t love to celebrate a birthday?  Well, all 320 Bishop Kidd students will be engaged with Trickster Theatre in writing a script to celebrate not one, but two important birthdays: Canada’s 150th and Bishop Kidd School’s 50th!  Underlying the birthday theme will be the thread of Strength in Diversity, since immigration is what brought us all to this building at this memorable point in time.  We will look at the various cultures within our school, inviting students to share stories with their classmates about their heritage.  We are interested in the stories about where students once lived, what their move to Canada was like, and their favourite parts of living here now.  For Canadian-born students, we are interested in their ancestry and the stories of their parents, grandparents, or ancestors coming to Canada.  For First Nations students, we are interested in life before settlers, the experience of integration with Europeans, and the current experience of life within a diverse nation.  Embracing all of these different cultures, we will create a final performance that celebrates each and every student in our school.

  • Project Outcome

We have chosen the theme Strength in Diversity because we want this theatrical performance, combined with students’ video essays, to shed light on the richly diverse background of Bishop Kidd families. We are celebrating Canada’s 150th through the exploration of our own families’ immigration stories, along with the stories of our First Nations students.

  • How to create projects

Only a school site admin can set up new projects. Ask you teacher to get help in setting up a project page. Once set up you can write blog articles to support your project.

New Projects can be of many types: an event, a take action project, a study, or a Trickster Residency.

  • What is Trickster Theatre

Trickster Theatre hosts weeklong residencies in Alberta schools. We help create an original show with up to 500 actors - on any theme. We provide the lights, curtains, sounds, costumes, and more!
