Elizabeth Barrett School is a K-5 dual track French Immersion/English school in the Town of Cochrane, a community just west of Calgary. We currently have a student population of about 600 students.

This process will be different from Trickster’s standard 5-day residency and will benefit us greatly by having them oversee our development over 40 days in a 3 month period to improve student engagement and literacy. This will happen in two parts, each consisting of a month; the theme for the first part will be Story Writing Through Movement and the second will be Studies on Stage.

  • Full Project Summary

The Rocky View board has undertaken a 4 year plan for all schools to make sure that learners are ENGAGED (make it real), learners are SUCCESSFUL (make it visible), and learners are SUPPORTED (make it for everyone). The Rocky View Schools (RVS) have committed to invest time into our projects to monitor, document, and share our learnings with all the other schools in the division. This will be supported by Trickster Theatre as they help teachers and our students make video documentaries about the process.  Our project with Trickster will fit perfectly into the RVS 4 year plan, as these are exactly the principles that Trickster bases all its residency programs on.

  • Project Outcome

Through our themes Story Writing Through Movement and Studies on Stage, we will see students connect and have higher engagement levels when story writing. They will have a deeper understanding of the story writing process through group brainstorming, collective creation, and graphic storyboarding. Every student will also have the chance to celebrate what they are learning in their classrooms by using the Trickster process to showcase their work each week at our celebration of student learning on Friday afternoons.

  • How to create projects

Only a school site admin can set up new projects. Ask you teacher to get help in setting up a project page. Once set up you can write blog articles to support your project.

New Projects can be of many types: an event, a take action project, a study, or a Trickster Residency.

  • What is Trickster Theatre

Trickster Theatre hosts weeklong residencies in Alberta schools. We help create an original show with up to 500 actors - on any theme. We provide the lights, curtains, sounds, costumes, and more!
