Memoirs of the Canadian Mosaic

Heritage Heights is a unique Kindergarten to Grade Nine School nestled in the Foothills of Alberta with approximately 370 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 and 180 students from Grades 7 to 9. We are a community school serving dense communities and farmland south of Calgary, including DeWinton, Heritage Pointe, Davisburg and Artesia.

Our students, teachers, and staff are very excited to work with Trickster Theatre in the 2017-18 school year to put on our show on Memoirs of the Canadian Mosaic.

We greatly appreciate your help and look forward to sharing our finished work with you!

  • Full Project Summary

Heritage Heights School will work with Trickster Theatre, we will host a week long residency to create a performance with all students and staff. We will base our performance on a theme of Memoirs of the Canadian Mosaic to create a collection of memories, stories, moments and events significant in our Canadian lives.

Each class will be responsible for researching and engaging specific memories, moments or mavericks from our collective Canadian history. Each memoir allows students an opportunity to journey into the heart and soul of our nation in order to uncover and celebrate the unique identities and values of events, people and places that have made our country a celebrated multicultural nation. Then, through multiple literacies (musical-rhythmic/harmonic, visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic, inter- and intrapersonal, naturalistic), students can begin to tell stories that are fundamental to being a Canadian citizen.  These stories will honour and celebrate our diversity and express our identities in order to develop empathy and compassion for one another.

  • Project Outcome

Through storying our lives as Canadians, a deep and rich understanding emerges and evolves about who we are and where we have come from. This inquiry into our collective experiences as diverse Canadian citizens has the power to teach us, to heal us, and to help us live heartfully and mindfully.

  • How to create projects

Only a school site admin can set up new projects. Ask you teacher to get help in setting up a project page. Once set up you can write blog articles to support your project.

New Projects can be of many types: an event, a take action project, a study, or a Trickster Residency.

  • What is Trickster Theatre

Trickster Theatre hosts weeklong residencies in Alberta schools. We help create an original show with up to 500 actors - on any theme. We provide the lights, curtains, sounds, costumes, and more!
