Canadian Scientific and Technological Discoveries

Father Doucet School opened in the fall of 1990 in the community of Shawnessy in Calgary.  Our elementary school is highly diverse, serving almost 350 students from more than 25 different countries.  We are a Kindergarten to Grade 6 School, including a special needs Educational Support II classroom.

Our students, teachers, and staff are very excited to work with Trickster Theatre in the 2017-18 school year to put on our show on Canadian Scientific and Technological Discoveries.

We greatly appreciate your help and look forward to sharing our finished work with you!

  • Full Project Summary

Father Doucet students will choose famous Canadian inventions to be showcased as part of the “Canadian Scientific and Technological Discoveries” theme. Trickster Theatre will assist us in creating a dramatic performance to be presented at the end of the residency.

We will invite our District Science consultants in prior to the residency to help each grade level research and learn about Canadian discoveries and inventions throughout Canadian history and how those inventions relate to what they learn in their curriculum. We also plan to connect with representatives from the Alberta Science Network and MindFuel (formerly the Science Alberta Foundation) to assist the students and teachers in their research and topic choices.  We will present the student’s research in a performance that chronicles Canada’s scientific history.

  • Project Outcome

In choosing our theme “Canadian Scientific and Technological Discoveries” we will teach students about important aspects of Canada’s past, instill in them a sense of pride to be Canadian, and plant the seed that they too can influence and affect the future of our country. Focusing on these topics will inspire students to explore the fun and exciting aspects of science, making them more engaged in the curriculum. Connecting with local science organizations will show students the resources that are available to advance their interest.

  • How to create projects

Only a school site admin can set up new projects. Ask you teacher to get help in setting up a project page. Once set up you can write blog articles to support your project.

New Projects can be of many types: an event, a take action project, a study, or a Trickster Residency.

  • What is Trickster Theatre

Trickster Theatre hosts weeklong residencies in Alberta schools. We help create an original show with up to 500 actors - on any theme. We provide the lights, curtains, sounds, costumes, and more!
